This spread was not very effective for me. Im personally using the same concept with the image that covers 3/4 of the spread but I think my execution of it is better. I feel like right where the seem is too much is lost in this image. To do this and make it look more effective I believe the focus of the image has to be on one side not breaking it up in an awkward place. this spread looks ok. But it could be better!

I really enjoy when a package is more than just a package. This is one of the bast example I found of that. I’m sure it would cost more, but the end product is so much more effective and the package is more then just something to throw in the trash. Personally i hate when you have to dirty a knife just to use some butter! This package eliminates that problem and looks good doing so!

This is a website that gives some tips to editing photos. It gives the example of nature photos which is why I really enjoyed it. It shows how ever saturating an image can really damage it. The reason I really like the design of the bottle is the use of the liquid as a color and not just a liquid that has to be there. I think the colors that are on each bottle work perfectly with the color of the liquid. Besides for the colors I think the caps are extremely unique and make the bottle more attractive. How the colors play in with the caps are great.

Coffee table books have long been my favorite type of books.. That is because most have very little text which means I can enjoy the pictures and not read anything! Spreads like this one have inspired my in my design in focusing more on getting good images and how the images are used on the page. In this spread there is no text that I can see.. but the images are so strong the text is not needed. That is what I want to accomplish in a sense in my book.

In my opinion 3 Floyds beers have some of the most interesting package designs I have seen. :Personally I don’t love the beer itself… but the bottles artwork is so interesting I want to buy it just to display it. I think its the bright colors that draw me it…its something about the pop of the bright colors up against the brown beer bottle that I really enjoy. Also the artwork with all the details is amazing.

I really like this package design because of the creativity put into it. The design is really simple, well the package doesn’t really have much of a design at all. Th part that I think is great is the use of the actual headphones. The fact that the actual product was turned into the focal point of the design is great. I think this is a very unique and successful package design where the designer though outside the box!

I feel as if I always talk about the good designs on here… So just to mix it up, so here is a bad one! Where do you even start with this one? Its hard to really find anything positive about it. There really is just about no attempt to design anything for this product. And why is the label for the price that strange shape? I guess that was the attempt at adding a design element… And on top if it all the label isn’t even centered… just not good.

I have spent a lot of time looking through different layouts for travel books. Some I have really liked some not so much. This particular spread I have mixed feelings about. I really like the use of the full spread picture but I don’t like the spacing on the bottom. I’m all for white space but it feels as if there is way too much. And the spacing between the paragraphs on the right seems a little large. maybe if the text was justified it wouldn’t look as strange to me? I do also like the idea of the chapter, So I like the spread but don’t love it…

I think this package and bottle design for Samurai Vodka are amazing. To me it literally look like in some way the bottle is a samurai sward. The handle is probably my favorite part about it but the unique shape of the bottle also gives a sharp feel. The box also has the sharp angle going through the package making it look almost as if it was chopped in half by a samurai sword. I’m not sure what the pattern is on the box but I think it fits well with the rest of the design. Color wise the black and red work perfect and on top of all that the staging of everything to create the picture is brilliant.

Following up on my last post about the sky making a picture here are two pictures I took from Carlson Oxbow Nature Park. Its obviously just about the same picture just on different days. The first day it was cloudy and all the pictures turned out grey and unappealing, the second picture was taken on a sunny day with clouds. I think that it is pretty obvious from this example how much the sky effects your pictures! I don’t know about you but I want to go to the second place and not the first even though they are the same place!

As I already mentioned in my last post I have never known a whole lot about photography.I know realize that for nature pictures the sky means everything! This image for example is great because of the sky not the trees or mountains. If the sky was gray and washed out this picture would be no good.What I have come to realize besides that the sky makes or breaks a picture is that water always makes a picture better! everywhere there is a lake or river or any type of water there is an opportunity for a good picture, its just a mater of getting the picture when the sky is just right.

For my current project I have found myself looking through a lot of nature pictures. I have always liked photography but have never had any real training or experience with it. Images such as this one have really inspired me. Looking at images like this give a great idea of using whats around you as a natural frame. The idea of framing things is something that I have been attempting to do myself. Images like this also make me want to travel the world and see all these places for myself. But using the techniques that can be found in this example for instance have been extremely helpful.

This is obviously a pringle box. It was designed for the Scandinavian market. The idea behind the design was to make a more sophisticated “premium” pringle package. All pringle packages that we see here in the United States are bright colored and in a way look almost cheap. This design with the colors being black and white really do make prongles look like a high end product. I think this is a great example of how drastically the audiences outlook of a product change based just on color.

I’m not even positive what this box is for but it is one of the greatest I have seen. Its so simple yet to me its perfect. My favorite part is the wood grain on the side of the package. Not only is the idea of the wood grain great but the texture with the cracks is perfect. Basically in my opinion it is an excellent idea and even better execution. Also with the entire top of the box being blank the audience focuses so much more on the sides which is where everyone is intended to look. For me this is a very inspiring piece!

I found this and had to share it! I love this package design I think its fascinating how the package looks exactly like a slice of the fruit. The thing I like most is at the bottom of the box how the solid color block acts as the peel of the fruit. I think it works perfectly having the company name in the solid “peel” color. The only thing I’m not sure about with this package is how effective it really is. To me it seems as if there is a lot of wasted space at the top of the box. I really like the creativity of this design but I question the effectiveness of it.

Looking through different travel magazines and books has been an inspiration for me during my current project. I really enjoyed this series of book cover for “The Rough Guide to Chicago” As in almost every travel book pictures are the main focus. What I really liked about the cover for this particular book is the color block for the text. For some reason I’m always drawn to messing with capacities and that is the case with this yet again. I believe this is a fantastic photo which is not take away from by the placement of the title/ color block.

I found this package design and found the simplicity to be what was so good about it. I really like how there is one color that makes the package really pop. In my opinion this is a great example of how effective white space can me! I have found that sometimes with design less is more, and this demonstrates that perfectly. The white space arround the image is what makes the color of the package stand out so much more! This is a very well designed series of packages that are a great reminder to any designer

This is a mosaic portrait of Hugh Laurie (Dr.House) made out of pills for the cover of TV GUIDE Magazine. This image also was very inspiring to me when creating me illustration series. I have always found it to me amazing how many small pieces could make up a single large image. It has always been one of my favorite concepts and seeing it done this well really inspired be to take my own idea and create my own series. The way the pills are arranged on the image creating the face are fantastic! There is also one done of Shaquille O’Neal that is really great work.

This is a series of aawesome portrait illustrations called FANTASMAGORIK® COSMIK FACES by the french designer Nicolas Obery. I this the concept behind the series is fascinating! There is so much detail that when put together makes such an interesting piece. This series was inspiring to me to see illustrations that are out of the ordinary. Looking at illustrations such as these is what inspired me to create my series of illustrations. In the future I would like to try something more like this with a less realistic feel to it. You should check out he whole series by Nicolas Obery, Its really some amazing work!
